Our Story

Dean and Myrna launched RWI Synthetics in 2014 to take on the expensive and frustrating problems that all kinds of complex digital systems have with reality. They brought deep backgrounds in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation together to wrap these systems in worlds, activity, and conditions indistinguishable from what they would face, uniquely including the decisions and unique behaviors of the people using them. RWI’s synthetic realities became high-value, strategic accelerators, de-risking innovation and ensuring systems were flawlessly future-ready.

These expanded to the massive scale, with disrupted worlds around digital television, web, in-vehicle, IoT, and IIoT systems. It was all about people. This meant accounting for and saving those invested in the systems, those responsible for creating and delivering them, and those who relied on the systems daily. In 2019, when we were asked to create synthetic cities we were ready– ready to help optimize the interplay of people, their lives and livelihoods, aspirations, and essentials with the changes in technology, policy, and infrastructure.

Our first city environments focused on connections between energy transition and electrification, disaster response, mitigation, and resilience scenarios. Recently, we’ve also added all forms of mobility. It is all about designing better futures for all, and by combining expertise from around the world in these future labs, we can successfully reimagine some of the biggest challenges facing all of us today.
